This year marks the sixth anniversary of the Congo in Harlem Film and Event Series. To kick off the series, we’ll be holding a panel discussion on journalism in the DRC at the Brown Institute for Media Innovation at Columbia Journalism School.

The panelists will discuss the new opportunities digital media offers to journalists who cover the Congo, as well as the daily challenges they face in getting their stories to the public. The conversation will also include the ways journalism and documentary can foster a more nuanced understanding of the Congo and its people, moving beyond current media representation and stereotypes.

Panelists include:

* Sekombi Katondolo, Founder of Mutaani FM
* Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson, Producer of 60 Minutes’ Joy in the Congo: A Musical Miracle
* Mélanie Gouby, Independent journalist featured in the award-winning documentary, Virunga

Moderated by Milton Allimadi, Editor in Chief of Black Star News.

This is a free event. Please RSVP here and arrive early to secure a seat, as space is not guaranteed. Reception to follow.
